Zepbound® (Tirzepatide) Injection 12.5 mg/0.5 mL – Pen-Style Prefilled Syringes (4-Pack, RX Only)

Refrigeration Required – Recipient Must Be Available for Delivery

At Weight Loss RX, we provide access to FDA-approved prescription medications used in medically supervised weight management programs.

Zepbound® (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injectable prescription medication approved for chronic weight management, not diabetes treatment. It is indicated for adults with obesity (BMI ≥30) or overweight (BMI ≥27) when accompanied by at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or type 2 diabetes. Zepbound is manufactured by Eli Lilly and Company and received FDA approval in 2023 specifically for weight loss.

Description

Zepbound® (Tirzepatide) Injection 12.5 mg/0.5 mL. Zepbound contains tirzepatide, a dual-action medication that activates both GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptors. These two hormones work together to regulate appetite, slow digestion, improve metabolic signaling, and reduce caloric intake. By targeting both pathways, Zepbound helps patients feel fuller sooner, stay full longer, and experience reduced hunger between meals.

The 12.5 mg dose is typically prescribed after patients have successfully titrated through lower doses and require additional appetite suppression and weight-loss support. Each carton includes four single-use, pen-style prefilled syringes, with one injection administered per week. Zepbound is designed for convenient at-home use under the guidance of a licensed healthcare provider.

Zepbound is not insulin and is not approved to treat type 1 or type 2 diabetes, though it may improve metabolic markers in patients with insulin resistance.

How Zepbound Is Used

Zepbound is injected once weekly, on the same day each week, just under the skin of the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Injection sites should be rotated weekly to minimize skin irritation.

Before injecting, the pen should be inspected to ensure the solution is clear and the medication has not expired. After cleaning the injection site with an alcohol swab, the pen is activated according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Once the dose is delivered, the needle is safely shielded.

Each pen is intended for single use only and must be disposed of in an approved sharps container. Patients should never share injection pens.

If a dose is missed, it may be taken as soon as remembered, as long as the next scheduled dose is at least three days away. Patients should not take two doses within the same week unless directed by their healthcare provider.

Storage Information

Zepbound pens must be stored in the refrigerator and should never be frozen. Because this medication requires refrigeration, an adult recipient must be available at delivery to ensure proper handling.

Important Medical Information

Zepbound is available by prescription only and should be used exactly as directed by a licensed healthcare provider. Weight loss results vary, and it may take several weeks to see noticeable changes. Patients should continue following a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity plan while using Zepbound.

Your healthcare provider will determine whether Zepbound is appropriate based on your medical history, BMI, and weight-loss goals.

What Makes Zepbound Different?

Zepbound uses the same active ingredient as Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) but is specifically FDA-approved for weight management. By targeting both GLP-1 and GIP receptors, Zepbound offers stronger appetite control and metabolic support than GLP-1–only medications, making it one of the most advanced prescription weight-loss injections available in the U.S.

Key FAQs for Zepbound® (Tirzepatide)

How does Zepbound work for weight loss?

Zepbound mimics two natural gut hormones—GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonists—which help regulate appetite, slow stomach emptying, and improve blood sugar control. This leads to reduced calorie intake and significant weight loss when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Who can use Zepbound?

Zepbound is approved for adults with obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m²) or adults who are overweight (BMI ≥ 27 kg/m²) with at least one weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol, in conjunction with diet and exercise.

What are the common side effects?

The most common side effects are gastrointestinal and usually improve over time. These include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, indigestion, and injection-site reactions.

What are the serious potential side effects?

Although uncommon, serious side effects may include pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney injury due to dehydration from severe gastrointestinal symptoms, and severe allergic reactions. Zepbound carries a boxed warning for the potential risk of thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), observed in rodent studies.

How do I store the Zepbound pen?

Store unused pens in the refrigerator between 36°F and 46°F (2°C to 8°C) in their original carton to protect them from light. If needed, a pen may be kept at room temperature (up to 86°F / 30°C) for up to 21 days. Do not return the pen to the refrigerator once it has been stored at room temperature, and do not use if frozen.

How do I inject the 12.5 mg dose?

Zepbound is administered as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection using a single-dose, pre-filled pen. Inject into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, rotating injection sites each week to reduce skin irritation. Your healthcare provider will demonstrate proper injection technique.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose and it is within 4 days (96 hours) of your scheduled injection, take it as soon as possible. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and resume your regular weekly schedule. Do not take two doses within 72 hours of each other.

How much weight can I expect to lose?

In clinical trials, adults using the highest dose (15 mg) lost an average of approximately 21% of their starting body weight over 72 weeks when combined with diet and exercise. Individual results may vary.

Is Zepbound a long-term medication?

Yes. Zepbound is intended for long-term treatment of chronic weight management. Discontinuing therapy often leads to increased appetite and weight regain.

What happens if I miss a dose of Zepbound?

Missing a single dose is not dangerous, but it may result in a temporary increase in appetite and a slowdown in weight loss as medication levels decline in the body.
